Several circular structures comprising of shallow curvilinear gullies and associated Postholes revealed signs of a settlement with animals. Environment Aardvark were contract for all Ecology/Habitat Survey which revealed evidence of Badgers, bats, great crested newts and Roesels bush crickets with an abundance of birds normally associated with open farmland. Hedgerows deemed inactive end of July 2006 & hedgerow removal began. Further studies concluded no prescence of badgers bats great crested newts. However a mitigation plan was devised for the Roesels bush cricket. They are found in areas of long grass namely along the road and hedge verges adjacent to J24 & former Huntworth Lane. Grassland turves from the remaining Huntworth Lane were removed & placed on northern side next to the balancing pond & J24 Road. Rank grassland to be maintained by annual mowing to prevent bramble & other scrub invasion to assist & maintain their habitats. Landscape Swan Paul were contracted to maintain existing features & establish new landscape areas to benefit wildlife & human. This was an important part of the project & we worked very hard with Sedgemoor District Council to ensure we had the correct balance.
